Struggling to Generate Leads?

June 9, 2009

Do you struggle to generate new leads, enquiries, prospects or sales?

Are you an expert at what you do, performing what you do best, but find it a real chore to identify and perform the right marketing activities to attract new clients? You’ve probably attempted various marketing activities, but found that they haven’t generated the results you wanted? When you acquire a hot prospect do you find that you don’t convert the majority of them into paying clients, and if they do convert, you often think you’re not getting paid what you think you’re worth? Naturally, you’ll find it more rewarding if your marketing activities result in prospective clients calling you ready to work with you.

Marketing really doesn’t need to be a struggle.

The marketing side of your business could be as much fun as delivering the service you provide. Obviously, you’ll find it a lot more rewarding if your marketing activities generate prospective clients contacting you wanting you to help them address the problems, pains, needs and frustrations they have. I bet you’ll be a lot more enthusiiastic, if most of those prospects turn into clients and pay you what you’re worth, and pay on time when you expect payment.

If it’s so easy, why aren’t more doing it?

Marketing Frustration. When all else fails, pick up the phone.

June 8, 2009

Paul phoned me this am.

He and Joanne have been married for 6 years. She works for a local Health Authority, he works for himself as a Graphic Designer. Lately, they’ve been arguing a lot about money. Arguing a lot !!!

There appears to be too much month at the end of the money. Joanne wants Paul to get a proper job - Why he gave up a good job in the city, she’ll never know. She’s fed up supplementing his “Hobby” that he calls work. After all, she paid for the Apple equipment he’s using.

He hasn’t generated a new client since January, and she was expecting him to pay for their summer holiday in Australia. He told her yesterday, that it wasn’t looking as though it would happen because “things are very quiet at the moment.” This resulted in the argument from hell last night, and was the “last straw”, Joanne gave him an ultimatum this morning….

“Do something, Anything to start bringing money in, even if that means getting a job stacking shelves in Tesco.”

She told him, that if he doesn’t take positive action to improving their cashflow by the time she arrives home at 7:00pm tonight then she was “off”.

We spoke for about 30 minutes. I was shocked. He was shocked, (and I bet Joanne would have been as well.)

Business Opportunity: Become a Marketing Coach?

June 7, 2009

Many people are looking for Business Opportunities, Franchises and investments to give them a short, medium or long tem return on their investment…..

…to improve cashflow, beat the recession or simply to better their standard of living and lifestyle.

Perhaps, you are considering “changing direction”, or to “get your teeth into something” or looking for “something to hang your hat on?”

Perhaps you’ve just invested in a business opportunity, and are looking for that warm ready brek glow?

If you’re looking for a return on your investment, and are currently investigating a Business Opportunity, then consider these 5 points.

A market for the products

Is there a market for the products your franchise, MLM company, or Licensor is offering. Is the market growing, declining, reaching a plateau? What’s the size of your market? What are your different segments or opportunities within your target market?

A unique range of products

Is the solution you will be marketing unique? Is it proven? Does it work? Will prospects pay for the solutions you offer? Does the product you sell work? Does it deliver on its promise, and how can you demonstrate that? How can clients decide whether they need the product?

A lead generation system

Business Networking: When someone asks “What do you do?”…

June 7, 2009

..don’t make the mistake of falling into the old formula of L + P = R

Now lets take a closer look at what that actually means.

L + P = R

Label + Process = Rejection.

Most people when asked “What do you do?” give themselves a label.

  • “‘I’m an accountant”
  • “I’m a web designer.”
  • “I’m a marketing consultant”.

At this point, think about what “label” you give yourself. For It says nothing about you at all. It doesn’t differentiate you from others in the same field, industry or sector. Quite often if becomes a conversation stopper.

With responses like “Oh we’ve got one of those” or the questioner simply remains unimpressed, as he’s “heard it all before.”

Then most people fall into the process trap. Whereby they actually just answer the question with a boring statement about the process they provide, completely indifferent from others in the same field.

  • “We do book keeping and Vat Returns”
  • “We build websites”
  • “We offer marketing services.”

So what can you do to remedy this, extend conversations, and start acquiring most business cards from interested parties?

Affiliate Marketing Programs: 20 things to think about before you start your own

    June 6, 2009

Here are a few thoughts to consider when starting an affiliate program….

    1. Do you have the time to manage it, or will you get a 3rd party to do it on your behalf - like CJ.com shareasale, clickbank, and linkshare are others. One of the biggest mistakes made by other affiliate program owners is in not managing it profitably.

    2. You may want to get your own custom solution and host it on your server. If you’re hosting your own, be prepared for a LOT of hard work - SUPPORTING your affiliates. They want it, they need, and you better give it.

    3. How are you going to reward your affiliates - by each lead they bring you or by each sale they make for you, sometimes referred to as CPC (cost per click) or CPA (cost per acquisition)

    4. What promotional tools are you going to give them - Banner ads? Text Links? Promotional Emails? Classified ad copy?

    5. Many affiliates think they will make money selling your products by simply adding a few links on their site - WRONG. They need to promote your products and services - what are the best ways to do that, and how are you going to help yoru affiliates.

    6. Will it be a 1 Tier or a 2 Tier Affiliate program? Will you compensate others on a sale if they introduced other affiliates into your affiliate network?

Marketing Planning: How to save up to £100,000 on various marketing activities

    June 6, 2009

Many people often confuse intention with achievement.

Having Good Intentions may be an excellent starting point, but you need to see some results from your efforts, or it counts for nothing. Worse still, the impact all your good intentions could have on your business or personal life can be catastrophic.

    Here’s an example…

Yesterday, I had 3 coaching sessions, and one was with a lady specialising in leadership training.

    She spends about:

  • 12 hours per week online on Ecademy, facebook etc.
  • 5 hours per week writing emails, followup letters and writing proposals.
  • 3 hours per week on the phone speaking with suspects, prospects and clients.
  • 4-6 hours per week going to networking meetings (morning, noon and night)
  • 6 hours per week going on 121s and appointments.

Do the maths. She spends approximately 32 hours per week in all these different marketing activities, but they don’t appear to be as effective as they were “last year”, apparently.

I asked her how much time she dedicates to delivering her training. She said it varies.
